Tech tycoon Mike Lynch and 5 others remain missing on Sicily yacht after third day.
  • The yacht that British technology entrepreneur Mike Lynch, his daughter Hannah, Morgan Stanley International Chair Jonathan Bloomer and his wife Judy Bloomer, and Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife Neda Morvillo were on sank, and they are all missing.
  • Specialist divers on Wednesday resumed their search for the six passengers.
  • On Tuesday, the Italian coastguard confirmed to Sky News that the deceased was Recaldo Thomas, a Canadian-Antiguan chef.

On Wednesday, the search for the six missing passengers continued after the superyacht sank in a storm on Monday morning, resulting in one fatality.

The following individuals were reported missing: Mike Lynch and his daughter Hannah, Jonathan Bloomer and his wife Judy Bloomer, and Chris Morvillo and his wife Neda Morvillo.

On Tuesday, the Italian coastguard confirmed to Sky News that the man who died during the incident was Recaldo Thomas, a Canadian-Antiguan chef.

On Monday at 4 a.m. local time, while anchored near the Sicilian port of Porticello, the ship was violently rocked by a storm and sank rapidly after capsizing, according to reports from eyewitnesses and survivors.

In 2011, Lynch sold his software company Autonomy to Hewlett Packard for $11.7 billion. However, he was later acquitted by a U.S. court of 15 charges of conspiracy and wire fraud, which related to the sale. Despite his acquittal, Lynch was extradited from the U.K. in 2023 to stand trial in the U.S.

The acquittal of Lynch was celebrated on the U.K.-flagged luxury yacht Bayesian, with Morvillo representing Lynch in the case and Bloomer testifying for the defense.

Angela Bacares, Lynch's wife, was among the 15 people rescued from the ship, including a one-year-old baby and her parents.

The wreck, located at a depth of approximately 50 meters, is posing challenges for rescue teams due to narrow access points, thick glass windows, and a variety of objects and electrical cables that are blocking entry.

The Fire Department divers have been inspecting the wreck on Tuesday, but access to cabins is still difficult, and it is impossible to confirm the whereabouts of the missing individuals, the emergency services stated.

On Saturday, Stephen Chamberlain, a former vice president of finance at Autonomy and a co-defendant in Lynch's trial, died after being hit by a car while on a run in Cambridgeshire, England, according to his lawyer.
