  • The 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony will be broadcasted live on NBC and will be shown on over 150 IMAX screens across the U.S. on July 26.
  • The Summer Olympics opening ceremony this year will take place on the River Seine, with Olympians sailing down a four-mile-long flotilla of nearly 100 boats.
  • "Dune: Part Two" in IMAX locations was a success, and now comes a live programming event.

This summer, numerous renowned athletes will grace the silver screen for the first time.

The 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony will be broadcasted live on more than 150 IMAX screens in the U.S. on July 26.

The Summer Olympics opening ceremony will take place on the River Seine in Paris, with Olympians sailing down a four-mile-long flotilla of boats past iconic sites.

Ticket prices for the IMAX screenings were not immediately available.

Gary Zenkel, president of NBC Olympics, stated that he and his team are excited to provide Opening Ceremony coverage to audiences at IMAX locations nationwide, as they come together to witness the beginning of 16 days of athletic excellence against the stunning backdrop of one of the world's most beautiful cities.

"Dune: Part Two" in IMAX locations has been followed by a successful live programming, with IMAX posting global box-office receipts of $103 million, accounting for about 20% of the movie's total worldwide haul while representing less than 1% of screens, according to a recent report from Eric Wold, an analyst at B. Riley.

The Summer Olympics coverage and other special programming could entice moviegoers to visit IMAX, where they could be enticed by trailers and advertisements for other films or events. IMAX tickets are more expensive than traditional movie tickets.

Despite being undervalued, IMAX stock has climbed nearly 6% year to date, with Wold's price target of $25 a share, just above the analyst average of $21.60, according to FactSet.

IMAX's flat box office projection in 2023, despite the rest of the industry declining, is not reflective of its current price, according to Wold. However, he noted that IMAX is the only company in the industry projected to generate adjusted earnings in 2025 that surpass 2019 levels.

"We believe that it is worth a premium," he said.

The opening ceremony will also be shown on NBC and Peacock.

On Friday at 2 p.m. ET, Richard Gelfond, CEO of IMAX, will be a guest on CNBC's "Power Lunch."

NBCUniversal, the parent company of CNBC, owns NBC Sports and NBC Olympics. NBC Olympics holds the U.S. broadcast rights to all Summer and Winter Games through 2032.
