During Super Bowl week in Las Vegas, the NFL advises teams against placing bets on sports.

The Super Bowl is being hosted in the U.S.'s gambling hub for the first time, but NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is cautioning team members against engaging in any gambling activities.

On Thursday, Goodell issued a memo to all NFL staff ahead of Super Bowl 58 in Las Vegas, reminding them that the league's policy prohibits them from betting on sports or entering a sportsbook in Vegas. Additionally, employees of the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers will not be permitted to participate in any casino games until Super Bowl LVIII ends on February 11th.

The upcoming Super Bowl LVIII is eagerly awaited by our fans and viewers worldwide. As millions of people tune in to watch the game and related events, it is crucial that we all take responsibility to safeguard the game's integrity and avoid any suspicion of unethical behavior, as stated by Goodell in the obtained memo.

As sports gambling becomes more legalized, the league has issued guidance for professional sports to navigate this new landscape. In 38 states, gambling is now legal, and over $300 billion has been wagered since the law restricting the practice was repealed in 2018, according to the American Gaming Association.

The Super Bowl 58 in Vegas is predicted to be the most bet on NFL championship in history. Despite initially opposing betting, professional sports leagues now view it as a lucrative source of income.

Since the start of the NFL playoffs, GeoComply, which monitors sports betting by location, has reported a 24% increase in gambling transactions compared to the same period in the previous year.

The NFL's memo outlines rules for owners, executives, coaches, football and medical personnel, and office staff, while players face stricter, indefinite suspensions for gambling violations, as per the league's adjusted gambling policy announced in September.

Over a dozen players have been suspended for breaking league rules. The NFL is currently investigating Kayshon Boutte, a 2023 sixth-round draft pick from Louisiana State University, who is accused of placing 8,900 bets over 13 months while underage.

Personnel were reminded in a league memo on Thursday not to place bets on the NFL or any other sport.

To prevent employees from entering the Super Bowl facilities, the league has teams staying in hotels about 30 minutes away from the Las Vegas strip.

Rules are slightly more relaxed for casino games such as card and table games, as well as slots.

Team personnel in Vegas are allowed to play casino games or slots during their personal time or off hours, except for employees of the Chiefs and 49ers, who will not be permitted until the Super Bowl is over.

According to the memo, gambling of any kind is strictly prohibited for NFL office staff at all times.
