  • Boeing has named Robert "Kelly" Ortberg to replace CEO Dave Calhoun.
  • Collins Aerospace, a unit of RTX, was previously led by Ortberg, who was 64 years old and previously the head of major aerospace supplier Rockwell Collins.
  • In March, Boeing announced that Calhoun would resign by the end of the year as part of a company restructuring following a January door plug explosion.

Robert "Kelly" Ortberg has been appointed as the new CEO of the company, replacing Dave Calhoun, in an effort to recover from safety and manufacturing issues. He will begin his tenure on August 8.

Collins Aerospace, a unit of industry behemoth, was previously led by Ortberg, 64, who was the CEO of major aerospace supplier Rockwell Collins.

"Boeing's chairman, Steven Mollenkopf, announced in a news release on Wednesday that the Board conducted a comprehensive search process to select the next CEO and Kelly is the ideal candidate due to his extensive experience and leadership skills in the aerospace industry."

In March, Boeing announced that Calhoun would resign by the end of the year as part of a broader company restructuring that also involved the departure of its chairman and the replacement of its commercial aircraft head.

Federal scrutiny over Boeing has been reignited after a door plug blew out of a nearly new 737 Max 9, just as the company was trying to move on from two fatal crashes of its best-selling plane.

Boeing reported wider-than-expected losses and a 15% decline in revenue in its second-quarter results, which were announced on Wednesday alongside the executive news.
