This month, Microsoft is resuming operations at its offices in Washington and the Bay Area.

The company announced that its Washington state and California Bay Area offices will reopen on February 28, as Covid-19 cases continue to ease. The offices will be open to employees, visitors, and guests.

Microsoft has indefinitely postponed its Oct. 4 return-to-office plans, affecting over 103,000 U.S. employees. The city of Redmond, where Microsoft is headquartered, stated on its website that more than 47,000 people work at the company's headquarters.

The company has completed its sixth and final phase of its phased return-to-work plan in the U.S., and anticipates reopening the rest of its offices as conditions allow.

Microsoft CMO Chris Capossela stated in a blog post that for the past two years, their hybrid workplace model has been linked to six distinct stages, enabling them to promptly modify their guidance based on health data, local government directives, vaccine availability, and vaccination rates, among other factors.

The company has touted more flexibility when it comes to working from home, a perk that could help retain employees. Not all employees will return to the office full time.

Microsoft announced on Monday that it has made schedule flexibility a standard practice for most roles. Employees can request to change their work site, location, or hours, which will be approved by their managers. Workers have until March 28 to make adjustments to their routines.

Capossela stated in the post that there isn't a single solution to how individuals work most effectively.
