Jim Breyer, an early Facebook investor, states that Mark Zuckerberg has been rejuvenated by Meta's focus on artificial intelligence.
  • Mark Zuckerberg has been "revitalized" by Meta's new focus on artificial intelligence, according to Jim Breyer, who invested in Facebook in 2005.
  • Breyer stated that he believes the individual feels confident in their current approach to AI and technology, as they feel they have the freedom to fully pursue their goals.
  • Generative AI is a top priority for Meta in terms of development and investment.

Jim Breyer, a venture capitalist and early Facebook investor, stated on Wednesday that Mark Zuckerberg has been revitalized by the company's recent focus on artificial intelligence.

"Breyer spoke to CNBC's Sara Eisen on the sidelines of the annual World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and shared that he has exchanged many messages with him post-election. He added that the person he spoke to is very revitalized."

Breyer, having invested in Facebook in 2005, knows Zuckerberg well. This investment turned out to be one of the most profitable in the history of the venture industry. Breyer stated that Zuckerberg's "original vision" was to connect billions of users through the social media platform.

Zuckerberg prioritized developing and investing in generative AI at Meta last year, with plans to spend billions more on AI infrastructure. Additionally, Meta, which is developing the Llama family of large language models, launched a competitor to OpenAI's ChatGPT.

Breyer predicts that Meta will become one of the top AI companies within the next five years.

"Breyer, who founded Breyer Capital in 2006 and left Facebook's board in 2013, stated that he believes Meta is as well positioned in AI as anyone out there. He added that he thinks Meta feels confident in its approach to AI and is unleashed to pursue it."

Since his election victory, Zuckerberg has made efforts to improve relations with President Trump as Meta positions itself as a leader in AI technology. In the run-up to Trump's re-election, Meta implemented changes to its moderation policies, removing third-party fact-checkers, which Zuckerberg claimed would promote "free expression." Additionally, Meta appointed UFC CEO Dana White, a close friend of Trump, to its board of directors.

On Monday, Zuckerberg attended Trump's inauguration ceremony alongside a few other tech CEOs. On Tuesday, OpenAI was selected to be part of Trump's joint venture on AI infrastructure. However, Meta, which is also owned by Zuckerberg, competes with Elon Musk's AI startup xAI. Musk has become one of Trump's closest advisors and leads Trump's new government efficiency advisory board.
