  • On Tuesday, President-elect Donald Trump announced that Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will head the efficiency office.
  • Congress has not yet established the Department of Government Efficiency and has not provided any funding for it.
  • Musk spent an estimated $200 million and months campaigning to get Trump reelected as President.

When President-elect Donald Trump's second term begins in January, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will lead an efficiency group.

Trump stated in a post that the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, could become "The Manhattan Project" of our time, and would "pave the way" for his next administration to "dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies."

Trump did not specify the location or timing of cuts, nor did Congress create or fund such an office. He stated that the group's work would end no later than July 4, 2026.

Trump had previously promised Musk's involvement in the envisioned group, which was touted by the CEO as a reason to put the former president back in the White House. Musk, who also runs defense contractor SpaceX, has been stationed at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida since Election Night.

Ramaswamy, who ran against Trump in the Republican primary, is a co-founder of investment firm Strive Asset Management. He has been vocal in his opposition to the widespread adoption of ESG principles by companies.

On Tuesday, Trump made several appointments, including choosing Fox News host Pete Hegseth for defense secretary and John Ratcliffe for CIA director.
