  • The new Apple Watch Series 10 hits stores on Friday.

The new Watch Series 10 is now available in stores on Friday, and after testing it for five days, I can confirm that it has enough improvements to satisfy both new users and those looking to upgrade.

Although I wasn't thrilled when Apple unveiled the new watches this month, the company's slight design tweaks, larger screens, and software updates for earlier models have grown on me.

The Apple Watch is included in the Wearables, Home and Accessories unit of the company, which generated $8.1 billion in revenue during the fiscal third quarter, a 2% decrease from the previous year. According to CEO Tim Cook, two-thirds of Apple Watch buyers are still new to the device.

The Apple Watch Series 10 signifies the tenth anniversary of the Apple Watch, and despite minor modifications, it remains the best version to date.

What's good

The Series 10 has new coils under the back glass that allow it to charge to 80% in 30 minutes. This makes it easy to get plenty of juice for the day ahead by plugging it in while reading a book or taking a shower. A full charge lasts 18 hours, which has been standard since the Series 1.

The larger screens on my Apple Watch Series Ultra are great for typing and selecting songs in a playlist, but the bigger display makes a significant difference when responding to text messages quickly.

I enjoy listening to podcasts, music, and audiobooks without headphones using the new speakers. I am rarely without my phone or AirPods, but I sometimes leave my phone charging downstairs. It was pleasant to continue listening to an audiobook I had started while putting my clothes away after work in the car.

The Apple Watch Series 9 now includes a feature that has received Food and Drug Administration approval to detect sleep apnea, which will be available to consumers starting on Friday. I am thrilled to try it out since I have been treated for sleep apnea in the past and am aware of how detrimental it can be if left undetected.

Titanium models are my preferred choice over Apple's polished steel versions because they are much lighter.

The shiny black aluminum option has a more expensive appearance than the matte silver or rose gold models, but it starts at the same price of $399.

What's bad

The Series 10 is thinner than earlier Apple Watches, which were not particularly thick. I would prefer the earlier thickness if it meant longer battery life.

The Apple Watch Ultra and Ultra 2 are impressive due to their ability to provide up to 36 hours of battery life. This feature is particularly advantageous when traveling or if you forget to charge it at night.

Big health upgrades are not readily available. According to reports, Apple is developing blood glucose or blood pressure monitoring features for the Apple Watch. Although I wasn't anticipating these features this year, I am concerned about investing in a device that may become outdated when significant health advancements are eventually released.

Should you buy it?

The Apple Watch Series 10 is a great first buy for those who are making a first-time Apple Watch purchase. It comes with a new chip, a bigger screen, a thinner design, and faster charging. If you own a Series 6 or older, you might also see enough to justify an upgrade. However, if you're into extreme sports such as diving or hiking and need features including extra accurate GPS and support for deeper water submersion, or just much longer battery life, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is a better option.
