While Amazon's checkout feature was not functioning, its Amazon Web Services division did not report any technical issues. However, AWS downtime can cause problems across the internet due to its market-leading public cloud status.
An Amazon spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Amazon is currently offering discounts on products in preparation for the upcoming Labor Day weekend in the U.S. However, customers were unable to take advantage of these discounts due to a technical issue, as some users noted on social media platform X.
The Amazon Help account recommended contacting the company.
The company cautioned investors that technical issues could negatively impact sales and the company's reputation. Despite this, sales reached nearly $148 billion in the second quarter.
