  • Amazon is ending a service that enabled Prime members to try on clothing, shoes, and accessories and pay only for the items they decided to keep.
  • According to a notice on Amazon's website, the service will be shut down on Jan. 31.
  • Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has been cutting costs across the company since 2022.

"Prime Try Before You Buy," a competitor to Amazon Prime, is shutting down.

According to a notice on Amazon's website, the service will be discontinued on Jan. 31. Users are directed to browse Amazon's fashion homepage.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy is implementing cost-cutting measures, including layoffs and shutting down experimental projects, as seen in the recent Try Before You Buy initiative.

The Information first reported the move, which was later confirmed by an Amazon spokesperson.

The spokesperson announced that the Try Before You Buy option will be phased out, effective January 31, 2025, as customers increasingly use the new AI-powered features like virtual try-on, personalized size recommendations, review highlights, and improved size charts to find the right fit.

In 2017, Amazon introduced the Prime Wardrobe service, which was exclusive to its $139-per-year Prime subscription program, which also offers benefits such as fast shipping and access to streaming services.

The service allowed users to test out a mix of luxury, staple, and Amazon-owned brands, and return any unwanted items for free within seven days of receiving them. It operated similarly to wardrobe subscription services like Stitch Fix and Nuuly.
