On Tuesday, Sony unveiled its PlayStation VR2 virtual reality headset, intensifying competition in the VR industry.
Facebook's parent company has committed $10 billion to transition its focus to the metaverse, a digital realm where users can work and play using its $299 Meta Quest 2 headset. However, companies like Sony may draw in customers who desire a headset that effortlessly connects and plays the games they already own on their PlayStation consoles.
Sony's VR headset is compatible with a PlayStation, while the Meta Quest 2 can connect to a computer for power-intensive gaming or run wire-free for less demanding tasks. Sony has not yet announced pricing for the headset, which resembles the Meta Quest 2 and comes with two controllers for navigation in VR.
Reports indicate that the company is planning to launch a virtual reality headset in the near future.
Sony executive Hideaki Nishino stated in a release that the objective is to design a headset that not only complements the aesthetic of your living room but also fully immerses you in your game world, to the extent that you almost forget you are wearing a headset or holding a controller.
The new product will have a lens adjustment dial for optimal viewing, and it has a slimmer design compared to the previous version.
Nishino stated that the launch of PS VR2 will significantly advance the way we experience games in virtual reality, with features such as 4K graphics, head tracking, and more.
