Ryan Salame, a former executive of FTX, appears in court again after changing his plea to guilty.

• Ryan Salame, who pleaded guilty to crimes related to the collapse of crypto exchange FTX, will be back in a Manhattan courtroom on Thursday.
• Judge Lewis Kaplan is holding a hearing on a withdrawn motion from Salame to overturn his guilty plea agreement with the government.
• Salame is due to report for a 7.5-year prison sentence next month.

On Thursday, Ryan Salame, a former FTX executive, will be back in court to answer questions about the secret negotiations that led to his guilty plea and the resulting 7.5-year prison sentence.

Salame's lawyers requested Kaplan to nullify the defendant's 2023 guilty plea for campaign finance and money-transmitting crimes, alleging that the prosecutors had not fulfilled their part of the agreement.

In April 2023, Salame's attorneys claimed in a court filing that the Manhattan U.S. Attorney's Office pressured their client to plead guilty by stating they would cease investigating his domestic partner, Michelle Bond, for campaign finance violations if he agreed to the arrangement.

In August 2022, Bond, a former lawyer with the SEC, was indicted on campaign finance charges related to her failed bid for Congress. The four-count indictment against Bond was made public a day after Salame, the father of their nine-month-old child, requested Kaplan to revoke his plea.

Salame quickly reversed course and submitted a motion to the court to withdraw his guilty verdict within days. In response, prosecutors rejected the claims in Salame's original complaint with a 32-page memo last week.

The judge in May imposed a heavier penalty than the five to seven years sentence that prosecutors had recommended for Kaplan, making Salame's attendance at the hearing a condition of his bail.

In late October, Salame will surrender to prison after a delay due to a leg injury.
