"CEO Sam Altman stated on Sunday that we are thrilled to be in Japan, a country with a rich history of people and technology working together to achieve more. He added that AI has the potential to accelerate work by empowering individuals to be more creative and productive, while also delivering significant value to current and emerging industries."

Tadao Nagasaki has been appointed as the new president of OpenAI Japan to lead commercial and market engagement initiatives.

Tokyo was selected because of its global prominence in technology, culture of service, and a community that values innovation.

We're committing to the region long-term by giving local businesses early access to a GPT-4 custom model tailored for the Japanese language, as stated.

The new model translates and summarizes Japanese text with better performance, is cost-effective, and runs 3 times faster than its predecessor.

Daikin, Toyota, and local governments are utilizing ChatGPT to enhance their efficiency, the company stated.

During a visit in November, Altman met with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and discussed the possibility of opening a new office in Japan.

The ChatGPT chatbot helped propel the artificial intelligence startup into the mainstream in late 2022, with the company's private market valuation reportedly approaching $100 billion.

Microsoft announced that it will invest $2.9 billion in Japan over the next two years to enhance its cloud computing and AI infrastructure.

Microsoft announced its largest investment in Japan, which is also its first international office, in its 46-year history.
