OpenAI appoints new CFO and product head, reveals partnership with Apple to integrate ChatGPT.

On Monday, OpenAI announced a partnership with and hired two top executives, including a ChatGPT-Siri integration.

Sarah Friar, who was previously CEO of Nextdoor and finance chief at Square, has been appointed as CFO of the company. Friar is also a co-chair of the Stanford Digital Economy Lab.

OpenAI's finance team will support the mission by investing in core research capabilities and ensuring scalability to meet the needs of the growing customer base and the complex global environment.

Kevin Weil, a former president at , has been appointed as the new chief product officer at OpenAI. Weil previously held senior positions at Twitter and Facebook and Instagram. His product team will focus on utilizing research to create products and services that benefit consumers, developers, and businesses.

As the significance of large language models grows in the tech industry and competition intensifies in the generative artificial intelligence market, OpenAI is strengthening its executive team. Despite its rapid expansion since the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022, the company has faced controversy and seen several employees depart.

In May, a group of current and former OpenAI employees published an open letter expressing concerns about the AI industry's rapid advancement, despite the lack of oversight and whistleblower protections for those who wish to speak up.

The authors argued that AI companies have financial motivations to evade effective supervision, and that customized corporate governance frameworks are not enough to alter this behavior.

Apple and OpenAI have announced a partnership to integrate ChatGPT into iOS, iPadOS, and macOS updates, which will be released later this year.

Apple's Writing Tools feature now includes ChatGPT capabilities such as image and document understanding, text generation, and image creation, as stated in a blog post by OpenAI.

"Siri can utilize ChatGPT's intelligence when necessary, as per OpenAI. Apple users are prompted to provide any relevant documents or photos before any questions are sent to ChatGPT, and Siri then presents the answer directly."
