On Thursday, the American chip company announced partnerships with major Indian firms and launched a Hindi language model to increase its business in one of the world's largest technology markets.

Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, discussed the company's technology and initiatives in India at its AI Summit in Mumbai, which was attended by Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar and Mukesh Ambani, the chair of Reliance Industries.

In the midst of the flurry of partnerships announced, Reliance and Nvidia struck a deal to construct AI infrastructure in India. Huang stated that Nvidia is collaborating with companies such as Yotta and to also establish computing infrastructure. By the end of the year, India will have "20 times more compute" than just over a year ago, according to Huang, referring to the country's computing power.

Huang stated that in the past, India was known for producing software and exporting it. However, in the future, India will focus on exporting AI.

Nvidia unveiled Nemotron-4-Mini-Hindi 4B, a compact language model in Hindi, the most widely spoken language in India. Companies utilizing Nvidia hardware can deploy this language model, while Indian IT consultancy is leveraging Nvidia's model to create its own Hindi AI model, Project Indus 2.0.

Large language models like OpenAI's GPT-4 are trained on more extensive and general datasets compared to small language models.

Nvidia is partnering with major Indian IT companies such as Infosys, Wipro, and TCS to train approximately 500,000 developers in developing and implementing AI agents using its software.

Nvidia is expanding its business in India as it searches for new markets to grow, despite the slowdown in its rapid expansion over the past year and a half.

To attract major foreign technology companies, particularly in the semiconductor industry, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been focusing on increasing investment in India.

India aims to become a major player in the semiconductor industry by striving for self-sufficiency in manufacturing. Modi has set objectives to advance the semiconductor sector, with a significant target to grow the country's electronics industry from its current value of around $155 billion to $500 billion by 2030.

The IT industry views India as extremely valuable, central to their operations, according to Huang.

Reliance Jio, the telecommunications firm under Ambani's Reliance Industries, has become India's biggest mobile provider, highlighting his conglomerate's ambition to become a leading AI player in the country.

Jio plans to create a massive AI infrastructure to make AI accessible to everyone, utilizing the vast amounts of data generated by over a billion internet users in the near future. With this ambitious investment and scale, Jio aims to become the leader in promoting AI adoption among consumers, businesses, and governments.

This presents a significant opportunity for Nvidia and other companies, according to Shah.
