The company has confirmed to CNBC that it is withdrawing its service in Russia in response to the country's invasion of Ukraine.

A spokesperson announced Sunday afternoon that due to the current situation in Russia, the service has been suspended.

Netflix's Russian market accounts for a small portion of its overall subscriber base, with approximately 1 million subscribers in the country, compared to its 222 million paid memberships worldwide.

Netflix halted projects and acquisitions in Russia following the country's invasion of Ukraine. The streaming service had four Russian-language series in production and post-production. Additionally, Netflix refused to comply with Russian regulations to carry news channels.

Netflix has suspended its service in Russia, following the start of the war, making it the latest media company to take a hard stance against the country.

Last week, it was announced that all film debuts in the country, including "Turning Red," would be paused.

Disclosure: Comcast is the parent company of NBCUniversal and CNBC.
