Mark Zuckerberg criticizes Apple for its lack of innovation and inconsistent policies.
  • In a podcast interview with Joe Rogan, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg criticized Apple's recent innovation efforts, including its Vision Pro headset.
  • Since Steve Jobs invented the iPhone, Apple hasn't created anything great in approximately two decades.
  • If Apple ceased enforcing its "arbitrary regulations," Meta's earnings would be doubled, as stated by Zuckerberg.

On Friday, in a podcast interview, CEO Mark Zuckerberg criticized rival tech giant for its poor innovation efforts and "haphazard regulations."

"While the iPhone has revolutionized communication and enabled many great things, Facebook has used the platform to impose arbitrary rules and hasn't created anything new in recent years, according to Zuckerberg. He compared Facebook to Steve Jobs' invention of the iPhone, which has been sitting dormant for 20 years."

Mark Zuckerberg stated that he believed iPhone sales were declining due to consumers delaying phone upgrades since new models weren't significantly different from previous versions.

"What is Zuckerberg's explanation for how the company is increasing revenue? He explains that they do it by squeezing people and imposing a 30% tax on developers by encouraging them to buy more peripherals and accessories that connect to their devices. Zuckerberg also mentions that the company builds products like Air Pods, which are popular, but they have limited the ability for other companies to create similar products that can connect to the iPhone."

Zuckerberg stated that Apple defends itself from criticism by arguing that it prioritizes consumer privacy and security, but he believes the issue can be resolved if Apple improves its protocol, such as enhancing security measures and employing encryption.

Zuckerberg stated that the product's insecurity stems from the lack of security measures implemented during its creation. Now, the product's ease of use is being used as an excuse to justify the use of only Zuckerberg's product.

If Apple ceased enforcing its "arbitrary regulations," Meta's earnings would be doubled, as stated by Zuckerberg.

He also criticized Apple's Vision Pro headset, which had poor sales in the US. Meta offers its own virtual headsets called the Meta Quest.

"Zuckerberg stated that the Vision Pro is one of the bigger attempts at doing something new that Facebook has tried in a while. He added that he does not want to be too critical of it because they have done many things where the first version was not great, and it is important to evaluate the third version. However, he noted that the V1 did not meet expectations and did not hit it out of the park."

He remarked that it's great for movie viewing.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment from CNBC.
