  • On Tuesday, Oracle's stock price increased by almost 12%, resulting in a wealth gain of over $15 billion for Larry Ellison.
  • In 1977, Ellison founded Oracle and currently holds the largest stake in the company, with shares worth approximately $146 billion.
  • Ellison is the world's fifth-richest person, according to Forbes.

On Tuesday, Larry Ellison gained $15 billion after his software company's shares had their best day in over two years and closed at a record.

Oracle's founder, Ellison, who established the company in 1977, is still its largest shareholder with a stake worth approximately $146 billion after the latest stock pop. He ranks fifth on the Forbes list of the world's wealthiest individuals, just behind CEO Mark Zuckerberg and ahead of Warren Buffett.

Oracle's cloud services and licenses support segment revenue increased by 12%, surpassing analysts' expectations, resulting in a 12% increase in the company's stock price to close at $127.54.

Despite being late to cloud infrastructure and missing out on the latest artificial intelligence boom, Oracle's increased demand for AI technology is allowing Ellison to boast about the company's growth in the most popular market in the industry.

"Oracle's chief technology officer, Ellison, announced on the earnings call that they are constructing a massive AI data center in the United States capable of housing eight 747s. He also revealed that they are building numerous data centers, some of which are small, while others are the largest AI data centers globally."

In the past year, Oracle shares have surged 52%, increasing Ellison's net worth by approximately $50 billion. This growth has outpaced the S&P 500, which has only gained 34% over the same time frame.

Unlike Jeff Bezos, Larry Ellison has been holding onto all his Oracle stock instead of selling off portions. According to FactSet, Ellison's last transaction in Oracle stock was a purchase of 7,000 shares in 2022, and he hasn't sold any since 2016.

Over 50,000 Amazon shares have been sold by Bezos this year, with the most recent sale occurring in mid-February, where he disposed of more than 14 million shares worth approximately $2.4 billion.
