Jeff Zucker is stepping down as CNN president, and Chris Licht will take over.

Chris Licht, a longtime television producer, will succeed Jeff Zucker as the president of CNN after Zucker's resignation earlier this month.

Licht is renowned for producing MSNBC's "Morning Joe" and revitalizing other shows, including "CBS This Morning" and "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," where he currently serves as a showrunner and executive producer.

The acquisition of CNN's corporate parent, WarnerMedia, by another company is expected to result in him taking on a new role. The highly anticipated merger is scheduled to occur in April.

Licht's hiring will be officially announced next week, as reported by CNN on Saturday, although none of the parties involved have yet commented on the anticipated appointment.

Puck.news reported that Licht was a top contender for Zucker's position after Zaslav expressed interest in him for the role.

On February 2, CNN's president, Jeff Zucker, resigned after it was discovered that he had a "consensual relationship" with his closest colleague. This revelation came to light during an investigation into former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo, who was helping his brother, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, manage sexual misconduct allegations.

Licht has over 20 years of experience in television news and is known for being a skilled politics and news producer, as well as a hands-on talent manager.

As his contract with CBS expires in April, he will assume his new position at CNN amidst the network's upcoming restructuring following the Discovery-WarnerMedia merger.
