Instagram has suspended Kanye West's account.

Kanye West was suspended from Instagram for 24 hours due to violating the platform's harassment policy.

For 24 hours, Ye, also known as West, will be unable to post, comment, or send direct messages.

Instagram's parent company, Facebook, confirmed on Thursday that West had breached its hate speech and harassment policies.

If West continues to offend, Meta may take further action against him, as they did not reveal any details of the post.

CNBC did not receive an immediate response from a representative of West when requested for comment.

On Wednesday, Variety reported that West directed racial slurs at Trevor Noah, host of "The Daily Show," in an Instagram post that has since been removed.

An alleged slur was reportedly made by West following a discussion between him, his former wife Kim Kardashian, and her boyfriend, "Saturday Night Live" comic Pete Davidson.

A year ago, Kardashian filed for divorce from West due to irreconcilable differences. The couple share four children. After the divorce, West publicly criticized Kardashian's relationship with Davidson on social media and asked her to return to him.

CNBC inquired about the time the suspension took effect and when it would be lifted, but Meta did not respond promptly.

CNBC reported that Matt Navarra, a social media consultant, stated that 24 hours feels like an "oddly specific" duration.

What about 48 hours, a week, or an even longer suspension?" he asked. "Instagram users are frustrated by the lack of clarity from Meta regarding why a specific incident resulted in a 24-hour suspension rather than a one-week ban. How can users trust the platform when Meta's rule-breaking penalties seem arbitrary and unpredictable?

Some may question whether a non-famous Instagram user would receive a longer suspension for a similar incident.

The debate on whether high-profile users, such as celebrities with large followings, should be treated the same as regular users when it comes to their conduct on social media platforms, or if companies like Meta are making exceptions and offering preferential treatment, has been reignited by this incident.
