In China, Huawei's competition intensifies during the holiday season, prompting Apple to offer discounts.
  • The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are being discounted by 500 Chinese yuan ($68.50), while the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are being discounted by 400 yuan.
  • Recently, Apple has started offering discounts through its own retail channels, particularly during special events.
  • Huawei and other domestic brands are intensifying competition for Apple, the Cupertino giant.

The U.S. tech giant is providing discounts on its premium iPhones and other products in China to compete in the crucial market during the Chinese New Year.

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are being discounted by 500 Chinese yuan ($68.50), while the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are being discounted by 400 yuan ($58.50). Additionally, customers can also take advantage of discounts on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15.

Apple has traditionally resisted providing discounts through its own retail channels, instead relying on third-party retailers to offer deals at specific times. However, with increasing competition, the company has become more inclined to post seasonal discounts in recent years.

Last year, Apple offered a Chinese New Year deal similar to the one they provided in May during China's 618 shopping festival.

In the third quarter of 2024, Apple's market share in mainland China fell from 16% to 14%, while smartphone shipments decreased by 6% year-on-year. The resurgent Huawei and other domestic brands have presented the latest challenge to the company.

Meanwhile, Huawei's shipments increased by 24% year-on-year, according to Canalys data, and its market share rose to 16% from 13% the previous year.

Despite being crippled by U.S. sanctions, Huawei has aggressively launched new devices since the latter half of 2023, which contain chips that were thought to be difficult to produce due to U.S. restrictions on the company.

In an effort to demonstrate its technological prowess, the Chinese tech company introduced a unique trifold phone last year.
