Aaron Rodgers is coming back to Green Bay, after all.

The quarterback announced on Twitter Tuesday afternoon that he would be returning to the team after signing a new contract that would make him the highest-paid player in the NFL.

Rodgers tweeted to clarify that he will be playing with the @packers next year, but reports about him signing a contract are inaccurate. He is excited to be back.

According to NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport, sources have revealed that Rodgers has agreed to a four-year, $200 million deal with the Packers, which includes $153 million in guaranteed money.

Since 2005, Rodgers, 38, has been a part of the league and has been a starter since 2008, following the departure of fellow Packers legend Brett Favre from the franchise.

The 2021 offseason saw tension between Rodgers and the Packers, with the quarterback hinting at disagreements with the front office, including Gutekunst, after the team used their 2020 first-round draft pick on quarterback Jordan Love.

In December, Rodgers stated that his relationship with the front office had improved and commended the Packers for addressing his concerns. "That's significant to me," he said. "I've relished being a part of the discussions that have a direct impact on my job."

Despite a tumultuous 2021 off the field, Rodgers won his fourth Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player award, fueling media speculation that the Packers were negotiating a deal to make him one of the top-paid quarterbacks.

To obtain cap flexibility, the Packers had to address Rodgers' contract before the March 16 deadline, when NFL teams must comply with the $208.2 million cap limit for the 2022 season. According to Over the Cap, the Packers' salary cap exceeded by approximately $26 million as of the start of the month.

Patrick Mahomes has been the NFL's highest-paid player since the 2020 season, after signing a 10-year, $450 million deal in that year.

Josh Allen, the Buffalo Bills quarterback, is the second highest-paid player in the NFL, with a six-year, $258 million deal that has an average annual value of $43 million per season.

On Tuesday, ESPN and other outlets reported that Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos in a blockbuster deal.

In 2018, Rodgers signed an agreement worth approximately $33.5 million, which is the same as Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff's deal and ranks sixth in the NFL.

Despite leading the Packers to an NFL-best 13-4 record and throwing for 4,115 yards, 37 touchdowns, and only four interceptions, the team lost in the divisional playoff round to the San Francisco 49ers.

In November, Rodgers faced intense criticism after it was revealed that he was not vaccinated, despite previously stating that he was immunized. Additionally, he violated NFL Covid protocols by attending a Halloween party without a mask and later testing positive for the virus.

Prevea Health ended its sponsorship deal with Rodgers after he missed one game in Week 8 and was fined $14,650 for attending an unvaccinated party, while the Packers were fined $300,000 by the league.
