Google Gemini product lead steps back from social media after AI product launch causes harassment.
  • Jack Krawczyk, the Gemini Product lead, removed information from his social media channels after facing harassment.
  • Elon Musk and other users and public figures have been criticizing Krawczyk.
  • According to sources, Krawczyk continues to lead the Gemini product.

Jack Krawczyk, the artificial intelligence product lead, has distanced himself from social media platforms such as X and LinkedIn following the controversial release of the company's AI image generator, which subjected him to cyberbullying.

Krawczyk, who is usually active on social media, where he is known to seek user feedback and praise Google products and colleagues, removed identifying information and made some accounts private. Krawczyk's official title is senior director of product management for Gemini, the company's main group of AI models.

Despite reducing his public presence, Krawczyk remains involved in the development of Gemini products and maintains his title, according to sources who requested anonymity to discuss the matter.

Google recently unveiled an AI-powered image generator called Gemini, which enables users to generate images based on prompts, similar to how text-based services like ChatGPT generate complex responses and answers to queries.

Google pulled the feature last week after users discovered historical inaccuracies that went viral online. The image engine is expected to relaunch in the coming weeks.

Krawczyk was the first Google leader to address inaccuracies in historical image generation depictions, stating, "We are aware of Gemini's inaccuracies and are working to fix them immediately."

On Tuesday, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet, sent a memo to employees stating that Gemini's image generation issues were problematic and had offended users by showing bias. He declared the situation completely unacceptable.

Krawczyk had been criticized by some without evidence of having an "anti-white" agenda, and images of him were included in their posts and responses. Elon Musk, who frequently attacks Google's business, amplified those voices on his platform, specifically targeting Krawczyk.

Krawczyk has removed any identifying information and images of himself from social media platforms.
