  • Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, stated in a memo that the company is actively working on a solution to address the issues with its AI-powered image generator tool.
  • Pichai also said the company is launching new processes for AI product launches.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai discussed Google's AI errors in a memo on Tuesday evening, resulting in the temporary removal of the Gemini image-generation feature for additional testing.

Semafor first reported that Pichai characterized the issues as "problematic" and stated that they had "offended our users and shown bias."

The image generator was launched by the company's main AI models earlier this month through Gemini. Users can input prompts to create an image. However, in the past week, users discovered historical inaccuracies that went viral online, prompting the company to pull the feature last week. The company has stated that it will relaunch the feature in the coming weeks.

Pichai acknowledged that some of Google's AI responses have offended users and shown bias, which is completely unacceptable. He stated that no AI is perfect, especially at this early stage of the industry's development, but Google knows that it must meet a high standard.

Earlier this month, Google renamed its chatbot from Bard to Gemini, and now the news follows.

Pichai's memo stated that the teams have been working tirelessly to resolve the issues and that the company will implement a defined set of actions and structural changes, along with enhanced launch procedures.

Pichai wrote in a memo that our products have always aimed to provide users with helpful, accurate, and unbiased information, which is the reason for their trust. As such, this approach must be maintained for all our products, including our emerging AI products.
