In November, Kai Cenat set a new record for the highest number of subscribers on Amazon's Twitch platform during a continuous live stream.

Cenat, a 22-year-old streamer, gained popularity over the past two years with live streams focused on comedy, gaming, and pranks. On Saturday, he completed a 30-day subathon, streaming 24 hours a day for each new subscription or donation.

In the Mafiathon 2 stream, Cenat broke the previous subscriber record on Twitch, with over 727,700 subscribers by the end of November, and had 50 million unique viewers.

Twitch subscribers usually pay $4.99 per month for perks like ad-free viewing, exclusive emotes, and access to subscriber-only chats with their favorite streamers. Twitch typically takes a 50% cut of subscriber revenue but reduces its share to between 30% and 40% for its top creators. Cenat's team did not disclose how much he earned from the subathon, but based on his Tier 1 subscriptions, he may have earned about $3.6 million in revenue, with Twitch taking a cut of that amount.

"In his final moments of his 30-day stream at his mansion in Los Angeles, Cenat declared, "I love you all so much. You are the reason I am who I am.""

Cenat's subathon surpassed Ironmouse's previous record, with more than 326,250 subscribers, and both events showcase a growing trend among streamers to use multi-day live streaming events to increase subscriber numbers and earnings.

Cenat's livestream was joined by several celebrity guests, including rapper Snoop Dogg, scientist Bill Nye, and comedian Kevin Hart. Despite sleeping, eating, and using the bathroom, Cenat was able to keep his stream going overnight without interruption. When he was off-screen, members of his team would take over to keep the thousands of viewers entertained.

Cenat is currently the largest streamer on the internet, boasting millions of followers across various social media platforms. He has 15.4 million followers on Twitch, 6.7 million on YouTube, 12 million on Instagram, and 2.6 million on X.

Cenat announced that he plans to contribute 20% of the revenue generated from subscriptions during his stream to a school construction project in Nigeria, following a visit to a community in Makoko.

"Cenat recently visited Nigeria and enjoyed it immensely, as he shared on his Instagram Story. He also mentioned that the project he is working on will be funded entirely out of pocket, including staffing, classrooms, and uniforms."

In 2023, the popular live streamer was charged with inciting a riot after a New York City giveaway turned into chaos. However, the Manhattan District Attorney decided not to prosecute.

Over 105 million active monthly visitors are attracted to Twitch, with streaming playing a significant part in the creator economy.

Although Amazon bought Twitch for almost $1 billion in 2014, the platform has not yet turned a profit, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.
