In 2014, Google acquired DeepMind, the world-renowned AI research lab founded by Hassabis, for a reported $500 million. The lab was given autonomy to operate independently.

Under Hassabis, DeepMind gained recognition for its technology advancements through games such as Breakout and AlphaGo, a program that surpassed the world's top Go player.

Hassabis explained to CNBC that simulations are completely risk-free and have no repercussions, yet they can still gain valuable insights from them.

Hassabis was a leader in the field of AI during his time at DeepMind and later at Google.

In 2018, Elon Musk, CEO, informed OpenAI co-founders that they would require billions of dollars to have a chance of competing with Hassabis and Google.

Rivals like OpenAI and Microsoft have brought headline-making products like ChatGPT and Copilot to market, potentially challenging Google's dominance.

Over the past ten years, Hassabis' research has been frequently published in Nature, a highly respected scientific journal.
