  • David Sacks, a tech investor and podcaster, will be appointed as the "White House A.I. & Crypto Czar" in the Trump administration.
  • Trump wrote on social media on Thursday that David will concentrate on establishing America as the preeminent global authority in both fields.

On Thursday, President-elect Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that David Sacks, a venture investor and podcaster, will join the Trump administration as the "White House A.I. & Crypto Czar."

Trump appointed Sacks to lead the administration's policies for artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency, including creating a legal framework for crypto and heading a presidential council of advisors on science and technology.

"Trump wrote that David will prioritize America's global leadership in both areas, protect online free speech, and avoid Big Tech's bias and censorship."

The appointment of Silicon Valley figures who supported Trump's campaign signals that the second Trump administration will push for policies that cryptocurrency entrepreneurs generally support.

Earlier this year, Sacks hosted a fundraiser for Trump at his San Francisco mansion, with tickets selling for $50,000 a head and a $300,000 tier that included perks like a photo with Trump.

Sacks' tone shifted dramatically after the January 6th riot, as he sharply criticized Trump and declared on his All-In podcast that Trump was "clearly" responsible for the events and had "disqualified himself from being a national candidate."

In July, Sacks spoke at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

Microsoft acquired Yammer, a social networking platform, for $1.2 billion in 2012. The founder of Yammer, Sacks, is also a member of the "PayPal mafia," a group of prominent technology figures and investors who worked at PayPal in the 1990s, including Elon Musk and Peter Thiel.

Sacks has gained popularity for hosting the All-In podcast with Chamath Palihapitiya, Jason Calacanis, and David Friedberg, where they discuss economic, political, and social issues.
