Kate Rouch, previously of a crypto company, has been appointed as the first chief marketing officer at OpenAI.

Rouch left Facebook in August 2021 to join Coinbase as global marketing and public relations head, where she oversaw the company's Super Bowl ads. Prior to that, she spent over 11 years at Facebook, holding the position of global head of brand and product marketing for Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Facebook.

Rouch said in a post on X that she begins on Monday.

Since the launch of ChatGPT, OpenAI's valuation has increased from $157 billion to $157 billion in two years. The company raised about $13 billion from Microsoft during this time and closed a $6.6 billion round in October. Additionally, OpenAI received a $4 billion revolving line of credit.

Despite not prioritizing strategic marketing, OpenAI has managed to reach 250 million weekly active users and over 1 million paying business customers.

OpenAI's recent hire suggests that the company intends to focus on marketing efforts.

Anthropic, the company behind the Claude chatbot, and tech giants such as Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta are competing with OpenAI for a larger market share in a predicted $1 trillion revenue market within the next decade.

Last week, OpenAI announced that it would be offering its employees the chance to sell approximately $1.5 billion in shares through a new tender offer to SoftBank.
