Roman Abramovich is open to considering offers for Chelsea due to concerns about UK sanctions, as Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss has stated that he has been given the opportunity to purchase the club.

This week, Labour MP Chris Bryant disclosed through Parliamentary Privilege that Abramovich is selling his UK home and another flat due to fear of being sanctioned.

It is reported that Chelsea's owner is considering selling the football club.

In 2003, Chelsea was acquired by Abramovich for £140 million, and he is now owed £1.5 billion.

£3bn price tag to buy Chelsea?

According to Sky News, Abramovich has set a £3bn price tag on Chelsea as he prepares to end his nearly 20-year ownership of the London club.

The Raine Group, Abramovich's advisers, were expected to issue letters to prospective bidders on Wednesday, with a deadline set for indicative bids in mid-March, according to Sky News.

Sources close to the process revealed that up to eight multi-billionaires were approached about purchasing the club amidst the possibility of Abramovich being sanctioned by the UK Government due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Earlier this week, an unidentified third party made an offer of £2.5bn for the Russian club, but it was turned down. Bids of £3bn or more are expected to be taken seriously.

Both Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Todd Boehly, an American businessman, have previously shown interest in purchasing Chelsea, but it is uncertain if either is still interested in a deal.

It is reported that some of the individuals reached out to Raine are believed to be from the US, while others are from Asia.

Who could put together deal to buy Chelsea?

Kaveh Solekhol, Sky Sports News' chief reporter, believes that selling Chelsea will not be an easy process.

Since Abramovich bought Chelsea 19 years ago, he has been unwilling to listen to offers for the club. However, now he is open to considering them.

On Saturday, we witnessed him attempt to relinquish control of the club to the Chelsea Foundation trustees. However, this has proven to be more challenging than he anticipated, and selling the club in the current market is likely to be more difficult than he initially imagined.

According to Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss, Abramovich is desperate to sell the club. Chris Bryant MP, using parliamentary privilege, stated that Abramovich is terrified of being sanctioned by the UK government.

Mr Bryant stated that Abramovich planned to sell his London house and another flat today. If Abramovich is getting rid of all his UK assets, it's clear he would also sell Chelsea.

The only problem is that no one can buy Chelsea at the moment because any potential buyer is concerned about the possibility of sanctions against Abramovich and the freezing of his assets.

For the first time in 19 years, Abramovich is open to considering offers for Chelsea, despite his belief that he has not done anything to warrant UK government sanctions.

Handing over control to the Chelsea Foundation trustees is as complicated as selling Chelsea at the moment.

Chelsea previously stated that the club was not for sale, but declined to comment on Wednesday.

Wyss ‘offered chance’ to sign Chelsea

Wyss, a Swiss billionaire, has admitted interest in buying Chelsea, but only as part of a consortium, according to him.

If the UK Government imposes sanctions on Abramovich, it could be challenging for him to retain ownership of Chelsea, despite his desire to do so.

Wyss revealed that Abramovich is attempting to sell all his villas in England and wants to dispose of Chelsea rapidly, according to a report in Swiss newspaper Blick.

On Tuesday, I, along with three others, received an offer to purchase Chelsea from Abramovich. However, I must now wait four to five days. Abramovich is currently demanding an exorbitant price.

As of today, the exact selling price of Chelsea, which owes £2 billion to him, is unknown since Chelsea has no money.

I can envision beginning at Chelsea alongside partners. However, I must assess the overall circumstances first.

I am definitely not purchasing Chelsea alone; I will need a consortium of six to seven investors to do so.
