On Wednesday, Anthropic launched Claude Enterprise, its latest major product that represents a significant advancement in businesses' integration of Anthropic's artificial intelligence technology.

The AI startup, founded by former OpenAI research executives, is the company behind Claude, a chatbot that has gained popularity in recent years.

Anthropic's chatbot Claude, launched in March 2023 without consumer access or fanfare, has become one of the hottest AI startups, with backers including Google, Salesforce, and Amazon. Its product competes with ChatGPT in both the enterprise and consumer worlds. Since January, Anthropic has introduced iOS and Android apps, a Team plan for businesses, and expanded internationally into Europe.

Claude Enterprise has had beta-testers and early clients such as GitLab, Midjourney, Menlo Ventures, North Highland Consulting, and Sourcegraph. GitLab utilized the product for content creation and responding to requests for proposals in a more automated manner, as Scott White, a product manager at Anthropic, stated in an interview with CNBC.

White stated that we are transitioning to a realm where these models will function more as virtual collaborators than virtual assistants.

Claude Enterprise offers a larger context window for uploading relevant documents, equivalent to 100 sales conversations, 100,000 lines of code, or 15 full financial reports. Additionally, the plan includes activity feeds for super-users to demonstrate AI usage to newcomers, as stated by White.

The cost will vary based on the specific needs of each organization, an Anthropic representative stated to CNBC. Factors that will influence the pricing include the scale of usage, such as the number of users and query volume, as well as the specific features required, like the level of integration.

In a presentation viewed by CNBC, Anthropic emphasized the importance of enterprise privacy and outlined the plan's role-based access, project-based invitations, and upcoming audit logs. A slide in the presentation stated, "Anthropic does not train our models on your Claude for Work data."

Since January, a dozen dedicated individuals have been working on Claude Enterprise, and the product has attracted interest from various industries, including legal and consulting, financial services, and software, said White.

The launch of Claude Enterprise by the Claude Enterprise follows Anthropic's June debut of its most powerful AI model, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, and its May rollout of its "Team" plan for smaller businesses.

The Team plan, which had been under development for several quarters, involved beta-testing with between 30 and 50 customers in various industries, including technology, financial services, legal services, and healthcare. The idea for the service was inspired by many of those same customers requesting a dedicated enterprise product, as Anthropic co-founder Daniela Amodei explained in an interview with CNBC.

In June, Anthropic unveiled "Artifacts," a feature that enables users to request various tasks from its Claude chatbot, such as generating a text document or code, and then opens the output in a dedicated window. This feature creates a dynamic workspace where users can view, edit, and build upon Claude's creations in real-time. Anthropic anticipates that Artifacts will be beneficial for code development, legal contract drafting and analysis, business report writing, and more.

Claude Enterprise offers "workspaces" that enable users to view, edit, and build upon Claude's creations in real-time, which is a significant draw for clients. This feature allows Enterprise clients to create marketing calendars, input sales data, create dashboards or forecasts, draft code for features, write legal documents, summarize complex contracts, and automate legal tasks.

In May, Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger joined Anthropic as chief product officer. Krieger, who was previously the chief technology officer of Meta-owned Instagram, grew the platform to 1 billion users and expanded its engineering team to over 450 members during his tenure. Meanwhile, OpenAI's former safety leader Jan Leike also joined Anthropic that same month.

The generative AI industry is experiencing rapid growth, with startups like Anthropic and OpenAI leading the way. Along with tech giants such as Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta, these companies are engaged in a race to integrate AI technology to maintain their competitive edge in a market that is projected to reach $1 trillion in revenue within the next decade.
