  • The new software, Apple Intelligence, was launched in the developer beta of iOS 18.1. It is currently accessible only to registered Apple developers who pay an annual fee of $99.

Apple Intelligence, a suite of artificial intelligence features, was released on Monday. This will enhance Siri, automatically generate emails and images, and sort notifications.

The new software called Apple Intelligence is now available in the developer beta of iOS 18.1. It's also accessible in similar releases for iPad and Mac. However, it's currently only accessible to registered Apple developers who pay $99 annually.

To access the service, users must first register for a waitlist inside Apple's settings app after updating, which requires pinging Apple servers for more complex requests.

The 18.1 version of Apple Intelligence is not expected to be released alongside new iPhone hardware, which is expected to run iOS 18 in the fall.

The integration of AI with Apple's operating system is a crucial initiative for the company. Investors are optimistic that this integration will lead to significant upgrades in the near future, particularly since it will only be compatible with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max and newer models.

According to Bank of America analyst Wamsi Mohan, the iPhone cycle is expected to remain strong for a longer period due to improvements in AI feature sets (software and hardware) in the 2025 iPhone.

What's in and what's not

Apple Intelligence showcased various features at its annual developer's conference in June.

The preview released on Monday includes:

  • A new Siri look that makes the edge of the phone glow
  • Rewritten sentence: "Other Siri improvements, such as the ability to understand commands when the speaker stumbles over their words, would be greatly appreciated."
  • Siri can now answer troubleshooting questions about Apple products
  • Better photos search and movie creation
  • AI-generated summaries for Mail, Messages, voicemail transcriptions
  • Writing Tools, Apple's text-generation service

Although Apple claims that these features will be included in the AI preview in the future, they are not currently available.

  • Image generation
  • Emoji generation
  • Automated photos clean up
  • Siri's improvements include its ability to use personal information and take actions within apps.
