Anthropic unveiled its most advanced AI model, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, on Thursday.

Claude, like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Gemini, has experienced a surge in popularity in the past year. Anthropic, founded by ex-OpenAI research executives, has secured $7.3 billion in funding from backers including Google,  and .

Anthropic debuted its Claude 3 family of models in March, followed by OpenAI's GPT-4o in May. The company announced that Claude 3.5 Sonnet is faster than its previous leading model, Claude 3 Opus, and is the first model from Anthropic's new Claude 3.5 family.

The Claude 3.5 Sonnet is available for free on the company's website, Claude.ai, and in the Claude iPhone app. Claude Pro and Team subscribers can access the latest model with higher rate limits.

The company stated in a blog post that the program exhibits significant advancements in comprehending subtlety, humor, and intricate instructions, and excels at producing top-notch content with a conversational, authentic style. Additionally, it is capable of coding, modifying, and executing code.

Anthropic unveiled "Artifacts," a feature that enables users to request various tasks from its Claude chatbot, such as generating a text document or code, and then opens the output in a dedicated window. This feature creates a dynamic workspace where users can view, edit, and build upon Claude's creations in real-time. Anthropic anticipates that Artifacts will be beneficial for code development, legal contract drafting and analysis, business report writing, and more.

The generative AI industry is experiencing rapid growth, with startups like Anthropic and OpenAI and tech giants like Google, Amazon, and others competing to integrate the technology and maintain a competitive edge in a market predicted to reach $1 trillion in revenue within a decade.

Anthropic's new model is announced after the company's May debut of its first enterprise product.

The Team plan, which was developed over the past few quarters, involved beta-testing with between 30 and 50 customers in various industries, including technology, financial services, legal services, and healthcare. The idea for the service was inspired by many of those same customers who requested a dedicated enterprise product, as explained by Anthropic co-founder Daniela Amodei in a CNBC interview last month.

At the time, Amodei stated that enterprise businesses were already using Claude in the office.

In May, Anthropic welcomed two new hires to its team: Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger, who was appointed as chief product officer, and OpenAI's former safety leader Jan Leike.
