On Tuesday, Poland's president, Andrzej Duda, stated that Ukraine's unwillingness to surrender to Russia in potential peace negotiations was "completely comprehensible."
In an interview with CNBC at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Duda reaffirmed his support for Zelenskyy after peace talks failed due to Russia's absence.
Duda stated that it's understandable why Ukrainian authorities won't engage with Putin today, as they made it clear from the beginning.
As the president of Poland, I find it perfectly understandable and clear.
On Sunday, a meeting of national security advisors failed to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict as Zelenskyy's chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, reaffirmed Kyiv's unwavering commitment to its 10-point peace plan.
The restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity, including the land seized during Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea, and the withdrawal of all Russian troops from Ukraine are included in its stipulations.
Kyiv's unwavering stance in the conflict has been commended by Duda, a staunch ally of Ukraine and a neighboring country. According to Duda, the war will only end when Moscow fully withdraws. However, Russia has objected to such demands.
President Duda stated that he is not surprised by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his allies' stance on the end of the war, as they attacked an independent sovereign nation.
"When all Ukrainian territories are free of Russian occupation, the war will end, as it's clear to me," he stated.
Edgars Rinkēvičs, Latvia's president, echoed Duda's remarks, stating that he believed the West should alter its approach to supporting Ukraine.
Rinkēvičs advised that Ukraine's allies should shift their approach from supporting Kyiv against the Russian attack to a strategy that helps Ukraine achieve victory.
Rinkēvičs stated on CNBC on Tuesday that those voices advocating for political processes, talks, or discussions do not seem to be listening to what Mr. Putin is saying.
Rinkēvičs stated that Mr. Putin is prepared to continue the war until its conclusion. He added that he had learned that Putin is challenging Ukraine's statehood. If this is the case, the question arises: what will happen next?
Rinkēvičs stated that he believed "common sense would prevail" in political processes, not only in the U.S. but also in Europe, particularly in the upcoming European Parliament elections.
