Antony Blinken, the Secretary of State, stated on Tuesday that China's increasing confrontational behavior towards Taiwan has harmed its own interests.

Blinken stated at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on CNBC's "Squawk on the Street" that the approach demonstrated by them in recent years has been detrimental to their interests.

The Taiwan Strait, a major commercial route, is crucial for economic stability in the region as Taiwan is a leading producer of semiconductors, which China heavily depends on.

Lai Ching-te, the Democratic Progressive Party's candidate, was elected as Taiwan's next president, despite Beijing's disfavor towards him. As the least preferred candidate among Beijing, Lai is expected to maintain the DPP's current stance on relations with mainland China and the U.S.

In the weeks before the election, Taiwan officials stated that the Chinese government made several attempts to influence the outcome through increasing military pressure and spreading false information.

Beijing has become even more furious with the White House after it issued congratulatory statements for Lai, despite China's disapproval.

The US State Department's statement on the election in China's Taiwan region is a violation of the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués, and goes against the US's commitment to maintaining only unofficial relations with the people of Taiwan.

The statement condemns the move and sends a negative message to separatist forces in Taiwan. It is strongly opposed and a serious representation has been made to the US side.

In Davos, Blinken restated the U.S. stance on Taiwan and China, which maintains support for Taiwan's democratic systems while opposing its independence.

The election results in Taiwan will undoubtedly influence the geopolitical environment and economic landscape, prompting the U.S. to take necessary precautions.

Before Taiwan's election, the White House announced it was readying for a potential "period of heightened tension."

A senior administration official stated on Wednesday that while they do not want to discuss specifics, it is crucial to be prepared and consider all possibilities, from no response to the higher end.

China, asserting its sovereignty over Taiwan, has made it clear that it intends to reunify the island with the mainland, even during President Joe Biden's meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. China has not ruled out using military force to achieve this objective.

Blinken stated that the focus is on preserving tranquility and stability, and both China and Taiwan have been informed about this clearly.
