The general election in the U.K. is taking place on Thursday. Polling stations will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time. Recent voter polls suggest that the center-left Labour Party is likely to achieve a substantial victory.
On Thursday, the Asia-Pacific markets experienced an upward trend, with Japan's Topix surpassing its previous all-time high of 2,886.50, which was set in December 1989.
On Wednesday, the S&P 500 reached new highs despite sluggish economic data, as investors seemed unconcerned. Trading volume was low, with the NYSE closing early at 1 p.m. ET. The exchange will be closed on Thursday for Independence Day.
