The at-home testing market, encompassing Covid-19 to cancer, could reach $2 billion by 2025.
The at-home testing market encompasses a wider range of tests beyond Covid and pregnancy tests.
According to Quest Diagnostics, the consumer-initiated lab testing marketplace may be worth more than $2 billion by 2025.
Everly Health CEO Julia Cheek informed CNBC that the company experienced over 100% growth in 2021 compared to 2020. Everly Health offers at-home lab testing through Everlywell.
Consumers can now get testing directly into their hands with the help of new entrants like Everlywell.
The same testing infrastructure used by diagnostics companies and top laboratories in the nation can be used to calculate various parameters, including fertility and STDs.
Afton Vechery, co-founder of Modern Fertility, stated to CNBC that their company is a wellness test that does not diagnose any conditions, but rather provides information to enable individuals to have an informed conversation with their doctor.
Modern Fertility was founded by Vechery after she discovered that obtaining fertility information was more challenging than she anticipated. Despite consulting with her OB-GYN, she was unable to obtain a panel of hormone testing.
She said, "No, Afton, you're not trying and failing to conceive right now. We're not going to order that for you," and when Vechery eventually got those tests done, she received a bill in the mail for $1,500.
She explained that the unexpected nature of her experience inspired Modern Fertility's mission to provide access to as many people with ovaries as possible.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 70% of healthcare decisions are influenced by diagnostic testing services.
