A TSMC spokesperson said safety systems were operating normally.

Some fabs were evacuated according to company procedure to ensure personnel safety, the person stated, and the company is verifying the details of the impact.

Shares of TSMC fell 1.5% in early trading.

The magnitude 7.4 earthquake in Hualien County was the largest on the island since 1999, as reported by the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake was felt in Taipei, the capital city.

According to Reuters, Taiwan's fire department reported that at least one person has died and over 50 people were injured.

Tsunami advisories were issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency for some southern islands and regions, but were later removed. Meanwhile, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology raised a tsunami warning in the country following the Taiwan quake.
