On Friday, Singapore charged billionaire Ong Beng Seng with two counts of obstruction of justice and abetment, according to local media, in a case involving a former government minister.

A Singapore-based Malaysian businessman, Ong, serves as the managing director of a Singapore-listed hotel owner and operator.

In July, the anti-graft agency in Singapore issued an arrest notice for Ong, who was being investigated for his interactions with former Transport Minister S Iswaran.

Iswaran was given 12 months in prison on Thursday for accepting over $300,000 in gifts and obstructing justice after pleading guilty.

HPL manages 38 hotels and resorts across 15 countries, all under the brands Four Seasons, Intercontinental Hotels, and Marriott International.

At the time of arrest, HPL stated that Ong was still suitable to perform his duties as managing director, but would continue to evaluate his continued appointment.

Shares of HPL were halted ahead of the court hearing on Friday.
