On Monday, Jerome Powell, the Federal Reserve Chairman, will speak at the Economic Club of Washington, D.C., where traders will search for clues regarding when the central bank will lower interest rates. During the discussion, Powell will converse with David Rubenstein, the Economic Club's chairman and a co-founder of The Carlyle Group.
Powell has not made any comments since the release of the consumer price index report on Thursday, which indicated a decrease in prices in June.
Last week, Powell testified on Capitol Hill for two days and stated that the Fed now viewed the risks between rising inflation and a slowing economy as more balanced. He also added that the central bank did not need to wait for inflation to reach its 2% target before cutting rates.
The Federal Reserve is scheduled to hold a policy meeting in July, though a rate cut is unlikely to occur then. Instead, traders are concentrating on the September meeting as a possible cut.
