Wall Street deals are experiencing a resurgence, and Goldman Sachs is excited about it.

Last year, the bank's shares experienced a nearly 50% increase, surpassing its major competitors, due to the Federal Reserve's easing cycle and the election of Donald Trump, which raised anticipations for mergers and stock transactions.

The fourth-quarter results of Goldman will provide investors with a glimpse into the industry's investment banking and trading fees, which are expected to increase by double digits. According to Dealogic figures, investment banking revenue for the industry surged 29% in the quarter, driven by the growth in advisory and equity capital markets activity.

The growth engine of the firm, the asset and wealth management division, is expected to benefit from the buoyant stock market late last year.

Solomon's situation was vastly different a year ago, when he was under pressure to satisfy internal stakeholders, including Goldman partners, due to mounting losses from consumer finance and a drying up of Wall Street deals due to rising rates and increased regulatory scrutiny.

On Wednesday, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, and another bank will release their results, while Morgan Stanley will do so on Thursday.
