European markets begin with mixed sentiment due to France's unclear political landscape.
European stocks are predicted to open with mixed sentiment on Tuesday as investors in the region assess the political uncertainties in France following the outcome of the election on Sunday.
According to IG's data, the U.K.'s index is predicted to open 5 points higher at 8,203, while Germany's index is expected to decline 45 points to 18,443. France's index is also expected to decrease by 18 points to 7,620, and Italy's index is projected to fall 32 points to 34,145.
The prospect of a prolonged period of political uncertainty in France is being digested by European markets as the country faces a hung parliament following Sunday's parliamentary election result. The left-wing New Popular Front won the largest number of seats in the final round of voting, scuppering an expected surge for the far-right.
Despite failing to obtain an absolute majority, the alliance may result in a coalition or technocratic government, which could make passing legislation and implementing reforms more challenging.
On Tuesday, the Asia-Pacific markets experienced gains, while U.S. stock futures remained unchanged following the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite's record-breaking closures on Monday.
