On Monday, Apple released the latest version of its software for iPhones, which is iOS 18.

Although this is Apple's largest iPhone update of the year, it does not include the company's upcoming AI system, Apple Intelligence, which is the focus of its new advertisements. Apple Intelligence will be released in a beta version later this fall and will be part of a separate software, the company announced.

The iOS 18 update will bring a new look and feel to the iPhone operating system, with one of the major features being the ability to customize the color of home screen icons. The iPhone's new user interface will offer a wide range of customization options.

Apple has updated many of its apps, including the Messages app, which will now allow users to send RCS messages, enhancing the SMS experience with improved photo quality and typing indicators.

The update is accessible for all iPhones released in 2018 or later. It can be downloaded through Settings > General > Software Update.

Here are some of the big changes:

  • Users can now relocate icons on the home screen to any desired location, such as along the edges or in the center.
  • Users can customize the appearance of app icons by selecting either dark mode or a preferred color.
  • The Control Center menu of Apple has been updated with additional pages containing shortcuts and options.
  • The Messages app now allows users to emphasize text with bold or italics, and instead of using a question mark, exclamation point, heart, or thumbs-up, users can now respond to messages with emojis.
  • If there's no Wi-Fi, supported devices can send texts through a satellite.
  • Apple has introduced a new app called Passwords that can store and create robust passwords.
