You may increase your chances of finding a new job by searching outside of coastal cities such as New York and San Francisco.

According to a new report from ADP Research, the metro areas around Denver, Oklahoma City, and Las Vegas are the top three hottest job markets in the U.S.

In over 50 metropolitan areas across the country, ADP Research analyzed labor-market conditions and ranked the top cities for job seekers based on factors such as starting wages, pay growth, and hiring rates for the period between 2023 and 2024.

According to ADP Research, these are the top cities in the U.S. for finding a job.

  1. Denver, Colorado
  2. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
  3. Las Vegas, Nevada
  4. Seattle, Washington
  5. Portland, Oregon

Major employers in the South and Sun Belt states are in industries that have been less affected by pandemic-induced disruptions or prolonged inflation, resulting in most job openings being concentrated in these regions.

According to Ben Hanowell, ADP Research's director of people analytics research, the strongest sectors in Denver are financial services, health care, and manufacturing, which are widely considered to be "recession-proof" industries.

Portland and Seattle have experienced a consistent demand for talent in education and health care over the past year, with these industries being standout job creators in other cities.

"Despite the belief that big cities offer more job opportunities, Hanowell argues that smaller markets can provide strong prospects for job seekers, even during a time of national hiring and wage growth slowdown."
