Amazon CEO emphasizes the importance of being 'ravenous' to succeed in one's career.
According to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, the secret to achieving success lies in continuously striving to acquire new knowledge.
Jassy stated in a video posted by Amazon last week that in order to discover methods of learning, one must be extremely hungry and famished.
The best leaders, according to one of those principles, "Learn and Be Curious," are always seeking to improve themselves and never stop learning. Jassy has observed that this ability is the key factor that separates those who successfully grow their careers from those who remain stagnant.
""At some point, some people find learning too threatening or difficult, which can lead to unwinding as an individual and a learning professional," he said."
Research indicates that continuing to learn as you age can enhance memory and cognitive abilities, as well as boost happiness. Additionally, employers value workers with a "growth mindset," who consistently strive to acquire new skills and enhance their abilities, according to Aneesh Raman, a workforce expert at LinkedIn, as stated in a March CNBC Make It article.
Julia Stewart, the CEO of the merged IHOP and Applebee's restaurant chain, shares the same philosophy as Jassy and Bezos that "You should be learning for the rest of your life."
As Stewart explained to Make It in May, good leaders must recognize that they don't always have all the answers and be open to learning from those around them. "I think as you get older and become successful, you realize: 'I don't have to be the smartest person in the room,'" she said. "I've never had somebody say, 'No, I'm not going to help.'"
Jassy concurred, stating, "It's crucial to recognize that you don't know everything and that there's always more to learn. Even if you invest a significant amount of time learning a particular subject, it can change rapidly."
To find joy in learning and growth, remain humble during challenging times.
Jassy advised that instead of feeling threatened and scared, one should view it as part of the excitement of the activity.
