On Wednesday, approximately 400 participants across the U.S. attended a virtual party hosted by a group of "Boomers for Biden-Harris."

Now that President Joe Biden has dropped out of his reelection campaign and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president, the names on the Democratic presidential ticket are set to change this week.

Laurie Plotnick, 76, a retiree and president of the Florida Democratic Senior Caucus, stated that seniors adored President Biden during last week's event.

Biden's actions to reduce Medicare prescription drug costs and enhance Social Security benefits and rent controls improved our lives significantly, as stated by Plotnick.

Plotnick stated that we were highly supportive of him continuing in the race if that was his desire.

Kamala Harris delivers first public address since Biden endorsement

Biden announced on Sunday through a letter on social media platform X that he intends to "devote his full attention to performing his presidential responsibilities for the rest of his term."

Some Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., are calling for Biden to resign from the presidency amid growing momentum in the Democratic party calling for him to call off his reelection efforts.

If the Republicans persist in claiming that President Biden should resign immediately, they will be disrespecting every individual aged 60 and above across the nation, according to Plotnick.

The oldest American president is Biden, who is 81 years old. Additionally, former President Donald Trump, 78, is among the oldest world leaders.

The presidential race has centered on age, with candidates' advanced ages being just one factor. The debate over raising the retirement age has been a significant issue in the runup to the Republican presidential nomination, with Nikki Haley proposing to raise the age for workers in their 20s while limiting wealthy Americans' access to Social Security and Medicare.

The AARP poll revealed that voters aged 50 and above will play a crucial role in determining the November election results, as their support is divided between Republicans and Democrats. While voters aged 50 to 64 lean towards the Republican party by 13 points, those aged 65 and above prefer the Democrats by five points.

The majority of respondents, specifically 80%, stated that Social Security is an extremely or very important issue that impacts their voting decisions.

If Congress does not act, the next presidential administration may reduce benefits for both Social Security and Medicare programs, as their trust funds are nearing depletion dates.

Although both Biden and Trump have pledged not to alter benefits, Trump has discussed reducing entitlements, as mentioned in a March CNBC interview. This has prompted senior advocacy groups to support Biden.

In June, the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare endorsed President Joe Biden for the 2024 race, marking only the second time in its history that it has made such an endorsement, following its support for Biden in 2020.

At the moment, the National Committee has not stated whether Kamala Harris is a leading contender for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Nancy Altman, president of Social Security Works, which previously endorsed Biden, has announced that the organization is now endorsing Harris.

Altman stated that he believes Harris' policies for seniors will improve even further.

As a senator, Harris supported the Social Security Expansion Act, which aims to increase benefits while raising taxes on the wealthy. In her role in the Biden administration, she has contributed to reducing Medicare prescription drug costs.
