Over the weekend, China released downbeat economic data, causing Asian markets to open mixed on Monday. Several key markets were closed for holidays.

The Federal Reserve's policy meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday is anticipated by investors, as it is expected to be the central bankers' first interest rate cut since 2020.

In August, China's factory output, retail sales, and investment numbers did not meet expectations. The urban jobless rate reached a six-month high, while home prices fell at their fastest pace in nine years.

Markets in China and South Korea were closed for the Mid-Autumn festival, while Japanese markets were closed for Respect for the Aged Day.

The Hong Kong market is likely to react to China's disappointing economic data. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index futures were at 17,348, slightly lower than the HSI's last close of 17,369.09.

The cancellation of hundreds of flights in China is due to Typhoon Bebinca, and Shanghai is predicted to experience the strongest storm since 1949.

The S&P/ASX 200 futures in Australia were at 8,116, which was above their previous closing price of 8,099.9.

Despite a weak September, the three major U.S. indexes finished last week's trading session with gains, with the and tech-heavy index closing their best week of 2024.

The S&P 500, Nasdaq Composite, and Dow Jones Industrial Average all experienced gains, with the S&P 500 increasing by 0.54%, the Nasdaq Composite adding 0.65%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumping 0.72%.
